SeaCity Museum in Southampton

Based in the centre of the city, this amazing museum tells the fascinating stories and maritime history of Southampton. Adults and children will enjoy this day out!

The story of Titanic

Southampton suffered more loss than anywhere else from the tragic Titanic disaster, with over 500 families in the city losing a loved one. The SeaCity museum brings the story of Titanic to life with interactive activities and a large model of the ship with intricate detail. Discover the stories of the many people who worked in the crew and the jobs they carried out onboard.

In 1912, Southampton was a major port, thriving with business and activity due to being home to around 23 steamship companies, as well as being Britain’s premier passenger port. See the sights and hear the sounds of the bustling docks in 1912, as well as the moving testimonies of the survivors who tell the story from the point of the ship striking the iceberg.

Gateway to the World

Know as the Gateway city, many people have arrived at Southampton and settled here, such as traders, refuge-seekers and people travelling to fight in wars. The SeaCity Museum explains partly why we have such a vibrant and diverse population in the city, explaining where people came from, why the left their homes, and the amazing cultures and languages they bought with them.

Learn about the Roman Traders, Saxon settlers, Huguenot Protestant refuge-seekers and Victorian industrialists from across the British Empire.
