This family-friendly fun day out is just a 20-minute drive away from Holiday Inn Southampton and is a firm favourite in the local area. Marwell Zoo boasts tigers, pygmy hippos, meerkats, giraffes and more among its endangered species. Set in a 140-acre park within beautiful, landscaped surroundings, you can get up close to some of the many animals and birds that are looked after by the zoo’s expert team. There are also covered areas for exhibitions and education sessions too!
Beaulieu Abbey Palace and National Motor Museum
Deep within the historic New Forrest, you will find the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu Abbey Palace, which boasts over 250 automobiles and motorcycles, telling you the story of motoring since the first car was made right up to the present day. For the car enthusiasts among you, this is a must-see when you stay with us at Holiday Inn Southampton.
The National Motor Museum was the Gold Winner in the 2013 Visit England Awards for Excellence and features World Land Speed Record Breaking cars, such as the Thunderbolt which was the British Land Speed Record Holder of the 1930s, driven by Captain George E.T. Eyston. There are also cars from your favourite films to see up close too!
Whilst you’re there, why not take the scenic route back to the hotel through the wonderful New Forrest and see if you can spot some wild ponies.
Located in the ancient UK capital city of Winchester, this cathedral dates all the way back to the 7th century when a Christian Church was first built on the site. It has since played a fundamental role in the history of the UK and after you’ve climbed the tower and taken a look at the crypt, you can spend the day in the pretty city of Winchester.
With fantastic shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes, there is plenty for you to do and it’s just a 30-minute drive outside of Southampton!
